FAQ

  • Is it safe to visit Egypt?

Some people question the safety of traveling in Egypt. However, Egypt is a very safe country. Travel in tourist areas, especially those along the Nile River (including Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, and Abu Simbel) are safe according to many Foreign Consulate Offices, including that of the United Kingdom and United States. It’s worth pointing out that Egypt as a country, according to the international crime index, has a lower crime rate than USA, France, Italy, Greece, and many other countries.

  • What is the best time for weather in Egypt?

Egypt has great weather year-round, however the Summer months can be very hot. For this reason, we recommend traveling between early September to late June.

We recommend that visitors view the average temperatures for each month and make a decision on when to travel based on their desired weather:

  • Do I need travel-vaccinations to visit Egypt?

It is recommended that you have all routine vaccines. While many visitors choose not to get any additional (travel-related) vaccines and remain healthy, it is recommended to consult a travel doctor prior to your trip. Some Health Departments recommend the Typhoid and Hepatitis A vaccinations for added precaution.

  • Do I need a Visa to enter Egypt?

We highly recommend that you purchase your Visa through the governments online portal.

You can find approved bank kiosks within airport arrival halls, before reaching immigration counters.

  • What is considered appropriate attire in Egypt?

When visiting historical sites, smaller villages, and cities, people should wear long dresses, sleeves, and pants. Short skirts, shorts, and revealing tops are not recommended. Unfortunately, this type of dress can be distracting as it is out of the norm and even looked down upon, given the fact that Egypt is a primarily Muslim country. Head coverings are not completely necessary, but can be a good idea to draw less attention.

In places like Luxor, Aswan, Hurgada, and within hotels and guesthouses, less conservative clothing is more accepted because of tourism. When in these locations, it is still good to have a shawl to cover up when needed.

  • Can you purchase alcohol in Egypt?

  • Can I easily change currency in Egypt?

It is easy to exchange most major forms of currency (USD, EUR, GBP, etc.). Bringing cash is always a good idea, as ATMs, while available, are likely less prevalent than you’re used to.

There are banks and exchange offices that can change cash and travelers’ checks in Egypt, as well as ATMs. We recommend exchanging a large portion at the airport upon arrival.

Many touristic shops and restaurants will accept dollars or Euros at rates that are relatively close to the official ones. Makes sure you know the current exchange rate of dollars or Euros to Egyptian pounds. You can check current exchange rates here.

Food in restaurants is usually safe to eat. Local restaurant and hotel owners take good care with current hygiene practices. There may be individual instances of problems with food, but remember that this is the case in any country you may visit.
